DIY Natural Acne Remedies

Had enough of endless clinical acne treatments that seem to be doing more harm than good? Perhaps its time to try some natural remedies to clear your skin and say goodbye to pimples. Not only will these treatments potentially help clear your acne, they are often cheaper and healthier than over-the-counter medications.

To prevent acne you need to be keeping your skin clean from dirt and bacteria that builds up throughout the day. One way to do this is start applying face masks. Doing this two to three times a week will leave your skin feeling smooth, clean and fresh and minimise that bacteria than can cause pores to block and pimples to emerge.

  • One quick and easy remedy needs just one teaspoon of yoghurt and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix the two to form a paste and apply it as a mask over your face and neck. Wait until the mask dries, wash it off with lukewarm water and you’re done! The mask removes oil, dead skin cells and the antibacterial properties in yoghurt help kill bacteria that causes acne.

  • Alternatively, bentonite clay provides an equally successful face mask. Many people haven’t heard of bentonite clay, but don’t worry it’s easy to get your hands on. Just find it at a health food store or over the internet. You simply mix the clay with water, apply it to your face, wait ten minutes and rinse off with warm water. Like the yoghurt and lemon juice mask, this treatment removes oils, dirt and bacteria.

Another acne preventative practice is exfoliation. By scrubbing away dead skin cells, bacteria, excess oil and dirt you are unblocking the pores that when blocked cause acne. Rather than buying an overpriced exfoliant at the chemist or supermarket try one of our home remedies and see how easy it is to achieve better results yourself.

  • One simple scrub is made up of water and sea salt. Simply combine them into a paste and gently rub into your skin in a circular motion. Rinse away with water and pat your face dry with a towel before moisturising.
  • Another DIY exfoliation uses 1 tablespoon of ground oatmeal, ¼ teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of olive oil or water to mix into a paste. Simply work into your skin, leave to sit for 5-10 minutes and wash off.

Over-the-counter acne treatments can be harsh on sensitive skin and it’s often hard to find one that works. If you are struggling to find a treatment that works for you natural remedies are cheaper, great for your skin and very easy to make yourself!
